Fish for Pain

Older adults who got more oily fish and marine-omega-3s in the diet prevented and managed pain. In this study, doctors measured fish and marine-omega-3s in the diets of 950 men and women, aged at least 60, and followed up for five years. Fifty-five percent started the study free from pain.

Compared to those who did not consume fish, those who got a six-ounce serving of oily fish per week reported 32 percent less pain and were 30 percent less likely to report worsening pain over five years. For every 500 mg of marine-omega-3s per day, chances for pain worsening over five years were lower by 17 percent.
